Provamel Organic Soya Custard Dessert – Vanilla

This review is of Provamel Vanilla Organic Soya Custard.  For reviews of similar products be sure to check the desserts section.

The first thing I noticed about this custard when I poured it out was how unlike custard it looked. If someone had just handed me a bowl of this without telling me what it was I would’ve assumed that it was porridge.  It looks very lumpy and congealed, not at all  appetising but when you’re eating it you don’t notice how lumpy it is, and strangely it’s actually quite smooth in your mouth.

Verdict

I got my whole family to taste this before I did myself ( I didn't tell them the flavour of it) and straight away my dad asked "Is this apple flavour?" I found this a bit odd as it is vanilla, but my mum said the same thing. When I tried it for myself I could tell exactly what they meant, the custard doesn't taste at all of vanilla. In fact the only thing I could taste was a kind of apple pie flavour.

This isn't as thick as it looks when poured out into a bowl, however it does leave you with a fairly unpleasant coated feeling on your tongue, mine also turned white after I had eaten a spoonful.
