The Verdict

We tried Pure Dairy Free Sunflower Spread in Sandwiches and on toast, crumpets and toasted teacakes. I used this as a replacement for butter when baking Gluten Free Chocolate Brownies and the results were very good.

The packaging is very appealing due to it’s understated and fresh appearance.

We found this Dairy Free Spread extremely palatable, you can’t tell it apart from regular margarine or spread. If anything, it tasted better than other brands of normal margarine that we have had in the past. It has a nice creamy taste and texture, it isn’t greasy and doesn’t leave an unpleasant after-taste or coating in your mouth. It is a pale yellow colour which looks very natural, it doesn’t scream of anything artificial (contains no artificial colours or added flavours and is free from preservatives).

Some free-from products are somehow lacking compared to their regular counterparts but there is no compromise whatsoever in taste here. We buy dairy free because of lactose intolerance, but even if we didn’t have dietary restrictions I would purchase this. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to both dairy and non-dairy consumers alike.

Pure also make a soya version and an olive version, I am planning on trying them too. I have also discovered that they produce soya cheese slices and a cream cheese style spread, I haven’t come across these locally but I will keep my eyes peeled and check them out if I find them.

Definitely a winner for us!

  1. Pure Dairy Free Sunflower spread is available in Ireland too. I love this I use it my self as normal butter. I have a small boy with dairy, soya and tree nut so this was a real find. Great as a spread, to cook with, bake with just brilliant.
